      Back to School WGN News!

Remember last week when Erin went on WGN News Now to share tips for the coming fashion season?

The tips were targeted towards back to school fashion but honestly they apply to everyone looking to get back to style.

      Comfortable Fit

Having spent the majority of the last year in leggings or pajama pants we're finding ourselves, and our clients, drawn to items with elastic waists or stretch in the material itself. And, give them a chance, higher waisted items actually feel more comfortable that something constricting sitting lower down on the waist. Bottoms like skirts, jeans and wide leg or straight leg pants are forgiving, flattering and comfortable. These pieces are classic shapes and will pair with tees, blouses and sweaters and with the high waisted items a slightly cropped top will set you up for a stylish debut.

      Intentional Layers

Gone are the days of that cardigan draped over your desk chair with holes in the elbows. We are SO excited to get the cardigan jackets pictured above in store soon. They're incredibly soft but add enough structure that they're perfect for the office.

Another thing to consider is incorporating layers into your look by buttoning your denim jacket or zipping your bomber jacket all the way up. This will add some edge to your look without going off the deep end.

Take a look at button-up shirts or shirt dresses and trying them layered under sweaters or vests. Or layer a sweater over a midi or maxi dress to turn it into a skirt and sweater look. Be playful and give yourself extra protection from Office AC!

      Black and White

Classic fall colors will of course be back but Black and White will continue to be a big trend this fall. While we might not have worn a lot of white on our zoom calls because no one wants to look washed out, when we're back in real life white is clean and classic! This gingham shirt is one of our favorites for back to the office. It ticks a lot of the trend boxes while maintaining a timeless quality that will last the seasons.

      Rock the Drop

Even if you are heading back home after taking the kids to school take the extra minute in the morning to put together an outfit. Or do it the night before to make it that much easier. Comfort, intentional layers and black and white are simple principles to follow. Just adding a denim jacket or popping on a dress instead of leggings can add a level of polish to your presence that others will notice.

      Let's get back to style!

9 Ways to Style | White Linen Pant

9 Ways to Style | White Linen Pant

Ever find yourself putting the same tops and bottoms together over and over and over and over (and over) again? Then do they seem stale?

We're guilty as charged for sure. So we challenged three of our favorite stylists to freshen up one item in our closet! Annie Peck, Hanna Donnelly and Katie Schuppler all tackled our Wide Leg Linen Pant and gave us nine amazing looks!

Sure, it is August and a linen pant's days might be numbered. But as long as the average temperature is above 55 we think linen pants are fair game!

Annie | Annie Frances Style Consulting

As a licensed therapist, Annie believes in the value of getting to know her clients well and understanding the work they do to better reflect each person's unique inner and outer beauty; and then challenging us with looks we might not typically consider, but end up loving!

Annie took the wide leg linen pant and dressed it up, down and back! First for errands, brunch, school run, you name it she styled the pants with a graphic tank, a black denim jacket and an XL tote.

Next for going to the office and then downtown date night, Annie styled the pant with a basic black tee and popped a shirt dress on top! The dress adds dimension, interest and, there's no other way to say it, style to the whole ensemble.

Finally the wide leg pant paired with the white peasant top and layers of necklaces gives a laid back but still polished boho vibe.

Hanna Donnelly | Hanna Lee Style

Hanna has been a stylist for over a decade and has worked on sets of TV commercials with Fortune 500 companies like Kraft, Pepsi, Special K and more but now Hanna exclusively works as a personal stylist both online and IRL. She she helps professional women look stylish on a budget, more sustainably.

It's no surprise, that Hanna took a wardrobe staple - the black tee - and made it the backbone of her three white linen pant looks.

First, the core outfit can be dressed up or down based on your shoes. A sneaker for errands and coffee dates and a metallic sandal or mule for the office or evening.

Either look can easily transform with the addition of a few accessories. Use the scarf as a wrap to stay warm when the sun sets. Wear it with a wide brim sun hat for French Riviera vibes. Or you could button up the jacket for completely different look.

      Katie | KS Style Consulting

After gaining a Bachelors of Arts degree in Fashion Merchandise Management and Business Administration Katie went on to become the Stylist/Style Director at the #1 women’s boutique in Milwaukee, Fred Boutique and she worked in the retail world for 7 years. For more than 10 years now she has lived in Chicago and has been dedicated to helping her clients (Men, Women, Kids, Tall, Petite, and Plus Size) find their own personal style through advice, Styling Sessions, Closet Clean-outs, Consignment, Look Books, and Speaking Engagements throughout Chicagoland, Southeastern Wisconsin, Southwestern Michigan, and NYC.

Katie paired the white linen pants with three different tops, all accessorized perfectly for almost anything on your agenda.

First, paired with a jewel tone top, the wide leg linen pants offer sophistication and comfort. The classic look of the top tucked into the trouser gets an extra bump from the perfect accessories. (We added the denim jacket without her permission during the photoshoot! I think we were just having so much fun dressing up)

Next, pairing the pants with a graphic tee, straw hat and "very trendy braided sandal" is perfect for casual brunch with friends or just walking around the city. Tie the tee up or give it a little half tuck into the trouser to elongate your legs.

Finally, the wide leg pants with a saturated and bright summer knit makes the perfect day to night outfit. This look works at the office and struts right into happy hour with your favorite co-workers!

So, do you have a favorite? Are you feeling inspired?

Thank you to our friend Kate for modeling the looks! We both agreed that these outfits were so cute and that we might not have ever thought to put them together the way our stylists did!

P.S. If you want to be a model for next month's stylist challenge let us know!

      Back To Work Collection

      Back To Work Collection

Slowly but surely we are getting back into our normal routines. We're returning to the office. We're taking kids to summer camps. We're attending weddings and showers. Happy hours, concerts and street festivals are back.

It can feel a little bit like the first day of high school though! There is some pressure when seeing people in person for the first time in over a year. Yes, we've seen them on video conferencing but no one has seen your bottom half since we all started working from home.

We're excited for it. And we're here today with a few tips for getting back to the office in style.

      Ensure A Comfortable Fit

Especially if your pants choice in the last year has been of the athleisure variety we suggest work pants (and skirts) with elastic waists. They're forgiving, flattering and versatile. Another option would be a wide leg jean or pant with a more fitted, or dare we say, slightly cropped, top.

Set Yourself Up for Style Success

Now is the time to have some fun. Fall trends are going to be a little bit bolder this year with highly saturated colors, black and white combos and rich chocolate browns. Each of these will pair perfectly with the camel tans, burgundies and sunset oranges you already have in your fall wardrobe.

      Dress To Impress

It's as easy as accessories. Jewelry, bags and scarves add the finishing touch to every outfit. Be intentional about your top layer like a blazer or bomber jacket instead of just grabbing something as an after thought. Office AC is always chilly but you can do better than the cardigan you stuff in your desk drawer.

      Feel At Home

Working from home has advantages and comfort is definitely one of them. Don't break your ankles wearing your sling backs that have been sitting in the closet for a year. Mules, fancy sneakers and flats will get the job done.

Also if you're going to be in the office five days a week again think about adding some home touches to your desk. A desk lamp, a plant and a coaster are easy personal touches.

      Find The Balance

Between business and casual. The retail industry has termed it "Power Casual" and we're calling it Casual and Cute. We're getting dressed again but we don't want the stress! Look for elastic waist midi skirts, easy dresses that only need a cardigan or blazer for the office and wide leg pants. Comfortable, flattering and feminine styles that can go from office to al fresco cocktails.

We're constantly updating our collection of Back To Work styles to help our customers figure out what to add to their wardrobe.
